That drive will then be bootable for your problem unit, for A/B testing and analysis. If you have access to another Mac that *will* boot from 10.6, use the DVD to install to an external drive (Firewire if available, USB2 otherwise), repartitioning it as/with GUID partition type and HFS+ Journaled format, then boot from that external drive and download & apply the 10.6.8 Combo updater from If you go to an Apple Store with the 10.6 DVD, they might be willing to burn a copy of 10.6.4 (full, retail) or higher for you, but it's up to them of course (don't bank on it). Tried to replace hard drive with a new one (maybe old hard drive problem even though it tested fine) same problem. 1) Upgrade to Mac OS X 10.6.8 and get the Mac App Store. When i purchased, I did not have the choice, it was only mentioning 10.6 The original disk are not available, I order Os X 10.6 from the apple store, the dvd that came is 10.6.3. The laptop is all original, no hardware change made on it. I want to do a fresh install as this seem to be the best and easiest way. It all works good, but the computer is from a school and they want to wipe off all information from it before selling it.
